AFP-PA Praises Energy Reforms in State Budget, Calls for Future Spending Cuts

HARRISBURG, PA – Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) celebrated the addition of key energy production and infrastructure permitting reforms in the state budget that passed on Wednesday, despite it coming four months late and billions of dollars over budget.

AFP-PA urged lawmakers to include in the budget a repeal of Pennsylvania’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a tax imposed on Pennsylvanians by former Governor Tom Wolf without enough legislative approval.

As a champion for Pennsylvania taxpayers in Harrisburg, AFP-PA was expressed disappointment that lawmakers failed to “hold the line at $47.9” and called for “structural balance” legislation that would prevent future budgets from spending more than the state revenue.

Emily Greene, AFP-PA state director, gave the following statement:

“Pennsylvania’s 2026 state budget is too much, too late. While AFP-PA is glad to see the budget include crucial reforms to our energy sector and infrastructure permitting process, we’re spending another $2.2 billion next year that we don’t have.

“The government service gaps that Pennsylvanians suffered during the dual crises of a federal government shutdown and state budget impasse make it clear that comprehensive budgeting reform can’t wait any longer.”
